JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a Database Administrator III position. DUTIES
OF POSITION: (This job description has been written to document
the major duties and responsibilities, and the general nature and

employees assigned to this job.) Jacobs Technology requires a highly-skilled,
articulate, motivated professional and diplomatic database administrator
in support of the Army’s Conditioned Based Maintenance (CBM)
data warehouse efforts. Ability to research, investigate, document,
administer, manage, evaluate, integrate and direct RDBMS specifications
is required. Additionally, the administrator will partner with colleagues
to ensure an Enterprise level perspective, Oracle best practices are
maintained, RDBMS security is ensured and operational standards are
followed.
Database Administrator
(DA) A DA is responsible for providing the technical capability for
implementing and maintaining a secure, reliable and efficient database.
Normally this position describes someone intimately involved with
performance tuning, monitoring error logs, ensuring reliability &
security and managing access to a multi-user, relational database.
A DA will have a basic
understanding of the database environment which includes hardware
and the operating system (OS) software/language.
Technology:
A DA’s main technology emphasis should be to:
Maintain skill set required to do job
Maintain an awareness of trends within the technology industry
Install, configure, administer and optimize databases (hardware and
operating systems)
Have knowledge of Oracle, SQL Server, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server,
Microsoft Active Directory, UNIX and/or LINUX Network Operating Systems
Ensure optimal access and security
Monitor database utilization including data storage management, performance
metrics and service levels
Ensure reliable backup and recovery of database
Develop and maintain an automated environment including reporting,
event notifications and actions, software updates and service packs
