Surgery. The facility offers a range of services including 24-hour
emergency care, cardiac catheterization, cardiovascular and thoracic
surgery, critical care, family practice and internal medicine, gastroenterology,
home health care, laboratory services, neurology and neurosurgery,
obstetrics and gynecology, occupational medicine, oncology/hematology
& radiation, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology,
pathology, pediatric & adolescent medicine, podiatry, pulmonology,
radiology, rehabilitation services, vascular surgery and more.
The main function of the Corporate Outpatient Coding Specialist is
to provide outpatient surgery coding support to Health Information
Management departments at the facility level. Outpatient Coders review
patient records and assign accurate codes for each diagnosis and procedure
using ICD-9-CM and CPT / HCPCS (3M coding software), as well as appropriate
coding references. He/she will perform centralized coding for CHS
hospitals via scanned medical records and abstracts via access to
hospital abstracting systems. This individual will be required to
make independent decisions regarding accurate ICD-9-CM and CPT / HCPCS
codes assignments. These decisions will play a key role in determining
the reimbursement potential of CHS and adherance to coding compliance
regulations and corporate policies developed to ensure accurate billing.
Job Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Certifications/Licenses:
Required certifications
include at least one of the following: Certified Coding Specialist
(CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered
Health Information Technician (RHIT)
