License Description:
Emergency Medical Technicians-Intermediate administer immediate medical
treatment and transport sick or injured persons to a medical facility,
They respond to instructions from a medical dispatcher and drive specially
equipped emergency vehicles. They monitor communication equipment to
maintain contact with the dispatcher and aid in removing victims from
the scene of an accident or catastrophe. They determine the nature and
extent of an illness or injury and the magnitude of a catastrophe to
determine appropriate medical procedures or the need for additional
assistance. They administer prescribed medical treatment at the site
of an emergency or during transport. This may include applying splints,
administering oxygen, or intravenous fluids, treating minor wounds or
abrasions, or administering artificial resuscitation. They assist the
treatment center admitting staff by obtaining and recording information
about the victim's vital statistics and the circumstances of the emergency.
They are responsible for maintaining their emergency vehicles, their
medical and communication equipment, and for replenishing their first
aid equipment and medical supplies. They may assist in controlling crowds,
protecting valuables, or performing other duties at the scene of a catastrophe.
In addition, they may assist professional medical staff in emergency
treatment after the victims reach the medical facility.
1) Must be 18 years of age 2) Must be currently certified
as an Emergency Medical Technician 3) Complete the National Standard
Curriculum (DOT) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate course
4) Challenge and successfully pass the state certification exam (written
and skills)
Written
and practical examinations: $100.00 Written exam, Certification: $20.00,
Recertification: $20.00 every two years.
