The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) provides
supports and opportunities to ensure the healthy development of children,
youth, and adults in the Sunset community. SNBC offers a wide variety
of educational and recreational programs at no charge to the community,
including arts and technology instruction for children and adults.
As part of SNBC's Rec Connect program, we will be
offering an intermediate Kids’ Web Design class to educate youth
on the awesome power, potential, and accompanying responsibility,
of modern internet use. We have a very strong belief in youth empowerment
and participation, and that is of paramount importance regarding the
upcoming generation’s educated and responsible use and adaptation
to life online.
The Internet Use and Web Design instructor will be
in charge of teaching a sense of internet responsibility, i.e. teaching
children to the vast resources of the internet while being aware of
its potential threats. As a vehicle for creating an online identity,
students will be encouraged to design websites. Qualified instructors
who do not currently have strong web design skills will be given on
the job training. Strong performance teaching and building relationships
with youth will be given priority over technical expertise.
