Description
This is a full-time position for a self-motivated
individual to serve as the facility Infection Control Practitioner
(ICP). This position is organizationally responsible to the Hospital
Epidemiologist (Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease Division) and
works in close collaboration with other Infection Control Practitioners.
The Incumbent is responsible for the management, development and implementation
of mechanisms that promote an effective infection control program
as designated by the Medical Center Infection Control Committee and
Hospital Epidemiologist. The ICP serves as an expert consultant for
the medical center through collection and review of data, current
knowledge of regulations, guidelines and trends that promote strategies
for surveillance, prevention and control of infections in patients,
visitors and employees The ICP provides staff support to services,
leads committees, other groups and individuals to assess, plan, design,
integrate, implement, modify, and/or administer programs and systems
intended to facilitate patient care and minimize the impact of infectious
and communicable diseases. The position responsibilities include but
are not limited to: implementing infection prevention and control
activities within the McGuire Veteran Affairs Medical Center and monitoring/reporting
the ongoing effectiveness; collaborating with other health professionals
and leaders to facilitate and ensure compliance with current infection
control standards; conducting surveillance to include nosocomial infections
& blood borne pathogens; assisting others to revise and update
policies following National Standard changes from OSHA, CDC, JCAHO,
etc.; assisting design and implementation of training and educational
programs for all levels of staff; assisting with employee orientation;
and working effectively with the Safety Officer, Quality Manager,
Industrial Hygienist, the Employee Health Nurse, Sterilization, Processing
and Distribution Department (SPD); and all other Infection Control
Practitioners.

1. Current, active, full and unrestricted license
as a Registered Nurse and graduate of a nursing program approved by
the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or
the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited School
of Nursing required. BSN Degree required.
2. Candidates must be a U.S. or naturalized citizen
and be proficient in spoken and written English;
3. Must have strong and proven verbal and written
communication skills;
4. Must have excellent organizational skills and attention
to detail;
5. Have the ability to function and complete tasks
independently as well as effectively within a team; and follow up
on critical issues;
6. Have computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook,
Word & Excel;
7. Have proven and documented ability to function
as a consultant and mentor to all members of the health care team;
8. Have demonstrated and documented ability and skill
in the areas of interpersonal relations, critical thinking and problem
solving;
9. Have knowledge of and demonstrated experience with
the OSHA, CDC, and Joint Commission standards;
10. Experience in preparing/presenting educational offerings
