License Description:
DESCRIPTION: EMTs are used to staff first response
units, ambulances or may work in acute care settings such as hospitals
and clinics. EMTs are allowed to perform medical acts as delegated by
a physician referred to in Colorado as a "Medical Director".
All EMTs providing patient care in Colorado are required to have a Medical
Director who directs how and where an EMT may practice.
LICENSE
REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Successfully
complete EMT training from a Colorado State approved program: .EMT
Basic initial training, minimum of 110 hours; EMT Intermediate initial
training, minimum of 206 hours; and EMT Paramedic initial training,
minimum of 900 hours. All training will consist of didactic instruction,
field internship, clinical or simulated situations, a practical skills
examination, submission of an application packet, and completion of
a National Registry examination. Colorado EMT certificates are issued
for a three-year period.
FEES:
No charge for the State certificate. Applicants may incur
charges for vehicle and background checks and are responsible for
training
and exam fees.
