Leadership/Direction:
Activities will be directed, monitored, outlined and supervised with
limited guidance from a more senior database administrator, engineer
or lead. Receives general assignments from project leader; critical
and unusual aspects of assignments are reviewed. No direct supervisory
responsibilities; however, can direct and review work of less experienced
and/or associate personnel.
Activities:
A DA 3 should exhibit the ability to administer a very large relational
database (Greater than 10 TB). An advanced ability to execute the
following duties is required: database installation, design, creation,
networking, procedural language development, security, tuning/monitoring
and backup/recovery. An advanced understanding of the database environment
is also required, to include hardware and the operating system (OS)
software/language.
A DA 3 encompasses all
skills inherent to the following essential functions:
Server set up and disk configuration for the RDBMS
Configuration of networking software
Physical and Logical database design
Database integrity including constraints and triggers
Analysis of business requirements to determine level of normalization
Knowledge and demonstrated ability to use and configure OS network
protocols
Knowledge and demonstrated
ability to use and configure advanced networking options to include
data integrity and data encryption algorithms
Ability to administer,
maintain and develop policies and procedures for ensuring the security
and integrity of the database
Ability
to apply database upgrades and patches
Ability to develop policies and procedures related to the support
and maintenance of database applications
Identification of RDBMS performance bottlenecks and solution implementation
Ability to perform routine analysis of the database and ensure database
performance is optimized
Ability to configure the database to properly accommodate changing
load patterns
Participation in the design
of backup and recovery procedures to match available hardware and
software, internal support capabilities and customer requirements
Implementation of backup
and recovery strategies
Participation in establishing
and managing security and check systems in order to optimize performance
and to initiate disaster recovery action after system failures
Demonstrated ability in
formatting and executing intermediate OS commands
Demonstrated ability in using enterprise database tools
Demonstrated ability in using OS tools
? Familiarity
with Army Logistics, Oracle PL/SQL programming language, OLAP and
other warehousing concepts within the Oracle framework, interfacing
/ integrating with web based products and fourth generation graphical
user interfaces languages will be a highly desirable. Must be able
to work with Systems Administrators in maintaining the integrity of
the government data that is stored on these systems. Familiarity with
the Solaris operating system and the Windows Server operating system
is critical. UNIX (Solaris) core competency is preferred while intermediate
Windows knowledge is also necessary. A minimum intermediate knowledge
level of both systems will be required.
? The chosen candidate
will be very strong in the knowledge and administration of the GRID/RAC
concept, PL/SQL and methods introduced in the Oracle RDBMS version
10g. This area of the enterprise will be the primary focus for the
database administrator. A core understanding of warehouse structures
and methods to include star schemas, fact and dimension tables and
cubing will be necessary.
