Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Under the Supervision of the Dean, Special Education, perform a variety
of administrative functions in Adapted Physical Education (APE), including
taking responsibility for the registration and accountability aspects
required of college programs qualifying for Title 5 Disabled Students
Programs and Services (DSP&S). Work directly with students with
disabilities and the public. Provide direct support to the APE faculty
and staff. As appropriate, assist students with multiple disabilities
(i.e. physical, mental, and/or emotional), their families, and/or caretakers,
to successfully maneuver through the special education registration
and accountability process. Respond to student concerns regarding the
special education registration process, the processing of adds and drops,
the status of fees, obtain financial aid applications, and the completion
of eligibility forms (including determining the initial authorization
for eligibility into Special Education and the APE program). Organize
and compile accurate data for state reporting and funding. Work closely
with the upper management in the development and administration of the
APE registration/accountability process. Research, maintain, and organize
APE related data and records required for a state audit. Execute direct
registration and accountability input for all on-campus and off-campus
APE students. Assist the APE department faculty and staff in the successful
execution of the special program's registration/accountability process,
including filing and maintaining student's medical verifications and
administering the APE portion of the DSP&S State report each quarter
as required under Title 5. Provide intermittent registration and accountability
support for the Special Education Division. Assist in the APE instructional
setting. Maintain detailed records of accounts payable and program expenditures.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic,
socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability,
and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and
staff.
2. Any combination equivalent to an Associate's degree in a related
field.
3. Three years of related work experience.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of Title 5 regulations pertaining to the operational
and accountability requirements of Special Education programs. In
addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
1. Ability to demonstrate flexibility and strong interpersonal skills
in working with students with disabilities while still completing
detailed processes and reports.
2. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
3. Ability to use interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and courtesy.
4. Ability to perform complete segments of an assigned function under
minimal supervision.
5. Ability to work with and assist students who possess a broad range
of skills, abilities, motivations, and academic, vocational and/or
personal goals.
6. Ability to be creative and innovative in coordinating and communicating
with the college community and related programs and services.
7. Ability to proficiently use computers in working with databases,
spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
8. Implement and oversee program elements related to assigned functions.
9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working
relationships with others.
10. Ability to work confidentially with discretion.
11. Ability to perform responsibilities independently while exercising
a strong 'team' attitude.
12. Ability to handle details with consistent accuracy.
13. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
