PURPOSE OF
JOB
This position
exists to lead a team of Information Technology (IT) professionals
whose role is to ensure that AvivaUSA information systems meet the
ever changing and demanding needs of the AvivaUSA organization. Responsible
for managing the development and support of the Aviva enterprise databases.
This individual will direct and lead the day-to-day activities of
the IT Database staff. This position reports to the Director IT. This
position will be leading a team of around 7-10 DBAs, supporting the
following database platforms:
SQL Server on
Windows
Oracle on Sun and Linux
DB2 on the Mainframe
UDB on Windows
MAJOR
FUNCTIONS OF JOB
1. To develop
and maintain the organization’s information systems whether
that be hardware, software or support, to meet the needs of the users
of the IT department.
2. To manage assigned
IT projects by: 1) designating resources (people, hardware, software,
support, time, etc.), 2) establishing team/individual expectations,
3) monitoring progress, 4) assisting in identifying/overcoming any
team obstacles, 5) implementing results/solutions and 6) timely project
progress communication.
3. To research
and investigate (or assign staff to the research and investigation)
any IT system issues as identified by users and/or internal controls
and resolve those issues timely and effectively.
4. To research
and review new hardware/software/IT systems in the external market
place (i.e.; "hot topics") and to communicate to the IT
Leadership any recommendations that would cost effectively improve
the operations of the department.
5. To participate,
as requested, in the overall planning and strategic direction of the
IT department related to technology, resources, and/or budgeting.
6. To provide
first class customer service to any AvivaUSA users, responding to
their needs, issues, concerns or requests.
7. To empower
IT customers, via in-house training/coaching/counseling, maximizing
their IT knowledge and skills related to their use of any IT disciplines
supported.
8. To serve as
a technical resource for peers and assist in the proper development
of peers through mentoring and training.
9. To ensure the
creation of system documentation for the IT tools designed by the
department.
10. To establish
and maintain a professional working relationship with all IT users,
IT staff and any external vendors.
11. To develop
and lead a team of professionals by: 1) hiring and retaining a qualified
staff, 2) establishing performance expectations, 3) mentoring and
coaching behaviors, 4) driving results, 5) establishing a strategic
direction, 6) administering disciplinary actions and 7) communicating
effectively.
