Description
Mercy College, a non-sectarian liberal arts college of nearly 10,000
students studying at 5 campuses and a robust online campus seeks a HEOP
Counselor. The HEOP Counselor will provide academic and financial counseling
to all students within the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).
S/he will be instrumental in helping students transition into college
by helping them with management skills, study skills, being prepared,
understanding the rigors of college life, etc. Furthermore, s/he will
promote retention and graduation strategies, work with the Assistant
Director and the financial aid office to ensure that the necessary documentation
is processed, assist administrators with the implementation of the summer
program, and attend all COP and HEOP staff meetings. Integrate academic
advisement with career services, meet regularly with students on probation
and develop an action plan. Submit progress reports monthly to supervisor
Requirements
The successful candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in Counseling
or a related field. A minimum of three to five years of counseling
experience in higher education is also required. S/he must demonstrate
interpersonal, written and oral communication, problem-solving, organizational,
and presentation skills. S/he must also demonstrate evidence of detail-orientation,
customer service orientation with the ability to work independently
with great levels of responsibility. Computer proficiency in MS Office
and the Internet are required. Banner is a plus. The HEOP Counselor
must be able to maintain confidential student records and have the
ability to travel between locations.
