Job Description
Our Information Technology department has an exciting career opportunity
for a
Senior Database Administration - PeopleSoft at our Corporate Office
in Houston, Texas. Currently located in the Greenspoint area of North
Houston, US Oncology is in the process of building a new facility in
The Woodlands, Texas and will be relocating during the first quarter
of 2009. SCOPE:
Under minimal supervision, implements, maintains, and resolves problems
with Server databases. Oversees access methods, access time, batch
processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection
and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Maintains database
dictionaries and integration of systems through database design. Relies
on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish goals. Supports
and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the
Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs and implements
databases and maintains database dictionaries. Ensures documentation
is complete and up-to-date. Develops and applies procedures relating
to database and application security including all access procedures.
Regularly reviews and changes access authorizations and verifies that
unauthorized persons cannot access applications and data. Develops,
monitors and enforces flexible, non-restrictive standards for all
database platforms. Monitors and tunes database subsystems on all
platforms to ensure optimum performance. Provides technical guidance
to IT personnel in the investigation, analysis and resolution of database
problems. Defines and designs logical and physical relational data
structures, which requires interviewing users and understanding their
data usage requirements and needs, as well as working with applications
programming. Monitors access time, performs validation checks, and
uses other methods to monitor and analyze database performance. Utilizes
appropriate measures to ensure acceptable performance, including changing
device allocations and file size, building indices, reorganizing tables
and purging data. Ensures databases will support growth, change, and
access demands. Develops and applies procedures for periodic database
backup. Determines backup method and frequency. Ensures that databases
can be restored quickly and completely from backup files. Develops
recovery plans to provide an adequate level of protection in the event
of database problems. Participates in the evaluation, design or acquisition,
and implementation of enhancements to business applications. Performs
analysis, feasibility studies and vendor comparisons leading to the
acquisition of database-related products, including database monitors,
utilities, query tools, and connectivity solutions. Develops and maintains
a schedule and associated budget for all assigned product and services.
