JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Transcribe gross,
microscopic, diagnostic, surgical pathology, autopsy, and cytology
reports; type general correspondence for Pathologists.
Print and process pathology reports.
Assist admin assistant, dept secretary and reporting positions.
Receive, sort, triage and accession all tissue specimens and make
cassettes.
Performs data entry of patient demographics.
Assist pathologist/PA in cutting room.
Answers departmental phone calls and assists clients as needed.
Clean cutting room and keep supplied properly.
Photograph specimens (Polaroid and 35 mm).
Properly hang tissue on the processors.
Keep quality control charts on equipment in the accession and cutting
room.
Prepare routine solutions and maintain an inventory of supplies
Responsible for proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste to
include xylene recycling (i.e. xylene, reagent alcohol, formaldehyde)
and dispose of specimens according to procedures.
Review procedure manuals and stay current with procedural changes
Must be familiar with Corporate Compliance Program and Corporate Policies.
All other assigned duties.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
Medical terminology (preferably pathology), accurate typing skills
(60-70 words per minute) and professional phone skills required.
Six months to one year of prior job-related experience is required.
Good phone and communication (written and verbal) skills are required.
EDUCATION & LICENSURE:
High School Diploma
or equivalent required.
